4/2/2014 Ten big auto cos ask suppliers to begin enviro footprinting or lose million dollar contractsRead NowTen of the largest auto-makers have announced an unprecedented agreement under which suppliers, as well as their subcontractors and suppliers, will have to undertake sustainability measures and green their automotive supply chain. BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, GM, Honda, Jaguar/Land Rover, Peugeot, Scania, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo have announced the following guidelines applicable to all suppliers and intended sub contractors worldwide: 1- Companies are expected to pursue effective environmental protection throughout the supply chain in order to reduce the environmental footprint of their products through-out their life-cycle. 2-All products manufactured within the supply chain, and the applied materials and substances used in the process are expected to meet environmental standards for design, development, distribution, use, disposal or recycling. Such a comprehensive approach includes but is not limited to: • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions • Increasing use of renewable energies • Training of employees 3-Businesses are expected to support a proactive approach to environmental challenges, and encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Carbon offsetting accords the fastest and most effective ways to meet these new green supply chain guidelines, reduce GHGs and encourage the diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies through the purchase and retirement of carbon offsets from renewable energy projects.
