Only 6 new CDM projects (and 1 resubmission) were submitted to the UNFCCC for registration in May with 4 from China and 2 from India, marking a seven year low for the compliance carbon market.
A rather large number of projects (141) got their registration action in May. 155 projects had a request for registration. The CDM Pipeline now contains 8868 CDM projects after subtracting the 1534 CDM projects where the DOEs terminated validation, the 257 where the DOEs gave a negative validation, the 247 projects rejected by the EB, and the 59 withdrawn projects. We have added two extra lines at the bottom of table1 in the Analysis sheet, showing the number of replaced PDDs and the total number of PDDs submitted.
May had a medium monthly issuance of CERs of 27.1 MCERs. The total issuance is now 1335 MCERs. The average issuance success is 91.1%. The first two afforestation projects had issuance in May. In the PDD templates the section showing, which the PDD consultants were, was deleted in May 2012. The UNFCCC has promised to insert this section again.
Two new PoAs were submitted in May:
"Improved Cook Stove Programme with Carbon Finance (ICF), Nepal" and
"City of Cape Town Treatment of Organic Waste Streams CDM Projects"
One PoA from Malawi was resubmitted. Subtracting the 10 PoAs that the DOEs terminated validation of,the 3 PoAs rejected by the EB, and the 21 resubmitted PoAs we have 396 PoAs in the Pipeline: 214 at validation, 20 have requested registration, and 162 are registered. This means that the large number of 28 PoAs had their registration action in May.
37 new CPAs were submitted in April for three PoAs, which already had more than 1 CPA: (the first two of the PoA below had no extra CPAs submitted before)
"CUIDEMOS Mexico (Campana De Uso Intelegente De Energia Mexico) - Smart Use of Energy Mexico" (ref=2535) got 24 new CPAs.
"Green Power for South Africa" (ref=7167) got 5 new CPAs.
"Masca Small Hydro Programme" (ref=3562) in Honduras get 3 new CPAs.
"National Solar Power Development Programme, India" (ref=6328) got 2 new CPAs.
"Improved Cooking Stoves for Nigeria Programme of Activities" (ref=5067) got 2 new CPAs
"Egypt Vehicle Scrapping and Recycling Program" (ref=2897) got 1 new CPA.
No PoAs had issuance of CERs in May.
In May one new JI track 2 project was submitted from Ukraine: "Modular Enrichment Complex Vahrushevskyi for mining waste dump recycling".
Excluding the 25 withdrawn projects and 1 rejected project the JIPipeline now contains 752 projects (551 in track 1 and 207 in track 2).
In May there was a low issuance of ERUs from JI projects: 5.7 MERUs.
The total issuance is now 738 MERUs. However, the real total issuance is larger. In response to the request by Parties at the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar, the UNFCCC secretariat has begun publishing weekly an updated table of ERU issuances by host country, (see the column in table 4 in the Analysis sheet). At May 22th this table showed the total issuance was 798 MERUs. The reason is that many JI host countries did not report their ERU issuance to the UNFCCC JI web-site. We are looking forward to see for which projects these issuance were made.
