On the occasion of the 67th Independence Day of India, Cafe Bullet Goa (a local Royal Enfield Riders Club in Goa with over 1000 members) successfully hosted their 3rd Independence Day Celebration Ride 2013. The entire CO2 emissions during the route was offset via the purchase and retirement of voluntary carbon credits by CARBONyatra.
The route for the ride was Panaji – Old Goa – Ponda – Madgaon – Navelim and on to the fort ‘Cabo de Rama’. In all over 162 kms was covered by the riders. Each rider was responsible for 0.02 tonnes (or 20kgs) of CO2 emissions. This was the only carbon neutral event in India on Independence Day.
"We offset 4 tonnes and retired the same on the Markit Environmental Registry. The project involved the capture of methane from a waste-water treatment and then generating power with the captured methane. The response was positive from all participants and helped to spread the knowledge of global warming and its impact on rising sea levels in Goa," said Kishore Butani, Founder, Carbonyatra.
